Natural History

There’s something about natural beauty. Nowhere else is that better preserved in such a diverse way than here in New York State. Every rock and ridge was meticulously carved by glaciers thousands of years ago and these scenic wonders continue to be a source of inspiration.

Niagara Falls, carved by the Wisconsin glaciations, the same force that created the Great Lakes serves as New York’s largest power producer. A short drive from the falls lies Letchworth State Park, renowned as the Grand Canyon of the East.

Saratoga Spa State Park and Bear Mountain State Park strengthened the states preservation of natural areas while encouraging and expanding public use.

Inspired by England’s Royal Botanical Gardens in the 19th century the New York Botanical Garden is a wonder of color. Equal pleasure can be gained at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and Queen Botanical Gardens.

Central Park opened in 1858 as the first urban landscaped park in the United States.
